Basics [/i]
Name: Akane Yuko
Birthday: June 21st.
Nation of Birth: Fire Nation
Gender: Female
Age: 21
Element: Fire
Appearance [/i]
Appearance: Akane is 5'6", not very tall, but not short. She is slender and gently curvy, although you could not describe her as thin. She has an oval frame to her face, her cheeks are high set, and her skin is as pale as fine china. Her nose is small, but has a little bump on the bridge from a past injury, and her mouth bears light red lips, small but full. It would be a pretty mouth if it were not for the two little scars her top teeth made in her bottom lip, once again from an accident.
Akane's eyes are a deep brown, almost black if you glanced from a distance. Her eyebrows are of a similar dark brown, which compliments her hair colour. Akane's hair is a dark copper/red colour with slightly lighter, sunkissed tones. It sits in a very stubborn style, not quite short but short enough to curve up at the back and slightly on the sides (think Shelk from Dirge of Cerberus). Her fringe goes off to her right side, and she has tucked some of the hair on the side of her head behind her ears, leaving bangs at the front
Clothing: For clothing, Akane prefers a simple, practical look. A plain but pretty, cream coloured shirt lined with terracotta-coloured cotton at the sleeves and collar. The sleeves are long and wide at the wrist, in an elegant fashion that gives the shirt a somewhat pricey appearance. The collar is almost low cut, stitched up at the front with lace so that it can be opened on the hotter days. Akane's pants are slate grey in colour, and made of a stiffer kind of starched cotton. They express a "straight-leg" style and boast surprisingly generous pockets on the backside and thigh.
Weapon of Choice: A large and slightly rusted axe. It was something she always used to wonder about, as it spent most of its years mounted above the fireplace in her parent's home. It's quite a threatening-looking blade, with a couple of faded scorch-marks tarnishing what used to be a shiny surface.
Bending Abilities: Weak fire bending in the form of small fire balls, sparks, thin whips of fire and small blasts. To be fair though, Akane never did spend much time revising her abilities and could probably learn more if she took an interest.
Inner Glance [/i]
Personality: Akane is a tolerant girl, although her patience is not endless. She can hold grudges if the recipiant so deserves it, on such occasions of betrayal or downright nastiness. She is, however, kind in nature and will always be willing to help those in need. This can often lead to people taking advantage of her, and when this happens, they will be ignored until a proper, genuine apology is made. Akane rarely loses her temper, but when she does, she can be quite cutting and insensitive. She will quite readily use personal details against the target of her rage, but once again this only happens if the target has done something drastic to deserve such a punishment.
Akane is also quite shy to kindness expressed from other people. After being raised by a mean-spirited father and henpecked by her mother, she can sometimes seem unappreciative of other people's compliments or gifts, simply because she does not know how to react to such a wonderful gesture.
Almost by habit, Akane is accident-prone and somewhat unlucky, and she often finds herself in scrapes and scuffles with inanimate objects that, so she says, grew legs especially to get in her way. Her clumsy accidents have since reduced in occasion since she has improved her Fire Bending.
Fear(s): -Spiders
- Betrayal.
Hobbies: - Tea making
History [/i]
History: Akane Yuko had always had a strained relationship with her father. He was strict, and somewhat cruel. It was well known that he was furious when he found out his wife had not given him a son - and so, it was Akane's mother who named her.
Akane's name itself means "deep red", which was apporpriate in reference to her hair colour. That was her mother's pride and joy, that little tuft of copper on her baby's head. The neighbours used to wonder where it had come from, seen as both the girl's parents bore hair black as a raven's feathers.
"Yuko" was the family name, and meant "gentleness, and superiority". It was an almost perfect match. The gentleness being her mother Ran, the superiority being her father, Hideki. Ran would often tell Akane stories of how Hideki's parents were so insistant he married her, that it almost caused a divide in his family. She would laugh naively as though it were a joke even back then, but anyone could see that the head of the Yuko family was less than pleased about his circumstances.
Akane was blessed with the ability to Fire Bend. This was seemingly the only thing her father was proud of. He would take her out into the forest, and teach her how to summon fierce flames and nasty sparks. The only thing is, he taught her with cruel intent. She would never forget that day he forced her to roast all the Koi in the pond. He held her firmly by the shoulders and ordered her, "Fire, Akane, fire! You useless girl!" She screamed as she watched the poor fish writhe and tremble as they were being cooked alive, those that could still swim fled from the flames she projected from an open palm. She was only seven during those days. And those fish, those poor, magnificent fish, were the breakfast of the family and the visiting relatives that day.
As she grew older and her Fire Bending skills improved, Akane began to help Ren with her jewelery-making. She would melt down and gold and silver, which saved her father the "irritating" task, and of course made piping hot tea when they decided to take a break. Akane loved tea. Brewing all sorts of fantastic flavours and scents was her passion, but she only ever did it for her mother. Even when the neighbours asked "Mrs Yuko, what IS that lovely smell coming from your kitchen?", she would not make it. It was her and her mother's secret, and she would share it when she was ready. She also delivered the jewelry to the store where it was sold, owned by Jirou's mother at the other end of town. Those two were firm friends, after meeting on Akane's first delivery when she was 14, and she always looked forward to his weekly chatter.
Hideki and Akane never really formed a friendship, or a relationship for that matter. Hideki was a bitter man, stern and set in his ways, and that conflicted heavily with Akane's free-spirited personality. Although, as every father usually is, he was possessive of his daughter. He watched her like a hawk when she even walked past a member of the opposite sex. Any boy she happened to talk to was more than often scared away by those angry eyes hidden behind a curtain. The only boyfriend Akane ever had was called Kaito, and he was her first love. Hideko did not approve, but he could not protest - his daughter was a young lady and had the right to make her own decisions. They met when she was 18, and were together constantly until one day, when they were 20, Kaito announced he was joining the Fire Nation army, and left her. She was heart-broken for weeks, but not as heart-broken as her mother. When she saw her daughter's tear-stained face on that sad day of parting, she wailed: "Who will give me grandchildren NOW?!"
Akane, now single, is a happy young lady, skilled in minor Fire Bending, tea making, and delivering. A humble life, yes, but a peaceful one.
