Basic Roleplay Rules
[/center]~*{ Roleplaying Rules and Posting Structure }*~
- Are you there, God? ~ The character that you create may be super smart, have super reflexes, or may be super sexy. However, please keep in mind that forum role playing is an interactive storytelling. You cannot kill, injure, or make physical contact with another character without their prior consent. This is called God-modding. You do not control everything that happens in the world, especially what happens with other characters. You make other people do things, and the staff will make you unable to post anymore.
- No Power-Playing ~ No matter how awesome you may think your character is, he or she cannot dodge every single attack, have infinite energy, or take no injuries. If you are caught power-playing, you will be warned and punished according to the forum rules.
- No One-Liners ~ - No matter how tired or creatively deprived you are, you can do better than just one line in a post. If you honestly cannot think of anything more than that one line, come back to the forum at a later time. Giving your brain time to think helps it in creating better material.
- Try Different Things ~ There are many reasons to role-play, and there are certainly many ways to do so here. Do not just role-play one thing. There is a war to be fought, political games to be played, secret missions to be performed, and members of the opposite sex to woo, and even everyday common life activities to occur. Branch out and try new things!
- Set Posting Order ~ If there is a thread with three or more members there should be a posting order, such as Person 1, Person 2, Person 3, Person 1, Person 2, etc. This allows everyone to react to each post, without them being gone for a day, and have had the whole topic pass them by. If it is your turn and you have nothing to post about, feel free to tell the next person in line to go ahead.
- Do Not Double Post ~ It is not as fun for you to role-play with yourself as it is to role-play with other people. This place is here for role-playing with other people. If you are caught double posting, the staff will take action in warning you.
- Spelling and Grammar Please ~ Use proper spelling and grammar. It makes it a lot more fun for people when they can read and understand your post without having to run it through an internet slang translator. It takes two more key presses to put down "you" instead of "u". Please make the effort.
- Out of Character Postings ~ Try to keep Out of Character (OoC) postings out of the role-playing topics. It is fine to ask in an OoC style, which is usually done at the beginning or end of a post with double parenthesis. Example: ((Do you want to move this to another place?)) These types of OoC posting styles are used to ask questions related to the topic at hand. Do not use a post to talk about your personal life, these OoC posts are specifically for the role-playing topic at hand.
- Character Images in Posts ~ All forums are different, and we at Shi Rekkoku understand that in some forums in posts the user posts his or her character image. On Shi Rekkoku, however, please do NOT post your character image at the beginning of each post, and each reply. It slows down the loading of the page for members who may have a slow internet connection, and we don't want that!
~*{ Character Rules }*~
- Character Profiles ~ In order to role play, you must have an accepted character profile as defined by the staff. Please bear in mind that this is an accepted profile per character . If you intend on having multiple characters to role play as, please refrain from playing as said characters until you have a complete and accepted character profile. Profiles will be accepted in due time. Please do not hassle the staff concerning when your character will be accepted or not. The staff members do have a live outside of the board and will get to your profile as soon as possible. Have patience with the staff, and the staff will have patience with you.
- Character Limit and Limitations ~ Right now there is no character limit or limitations. However, if a lot of characters are found to be rarely used, there will be a lockdown on making new characters. No character wants to be ignored.
- No Rip Offs ~ Please try to refrain from ripping off characters from games, anime, or movies. We do not mind if you use a character’s picture for your character or some basic concepts or ideas, but please do not rip off an entire character. We do not want to see Naruto, Edward Cullen, Cloud Strife, etc here. Be original in creating your own character! This also applies to canon characters from the show Avatar: The Last Airbender. There is no Aang, Katara, Zuko, Sokka or Toph here. This is a different timeline. Also, please do not have your character directly related to any cannon character; it has been done many times over.
- Hello, Mary Sue! ~ Try to refrain from making a Mary Sue type character. Your character is not God’s gift to the world, he or she cannot do everything, impress everyone, come out of impossible situations the winner and without a scratch. This is a somewhat realistic role-playing world, and no one likes a spoiled child who always gets their way. If you are not sure if your character is a Mary Sue or not, try this test.. Use sections 1, 3, and 5. Please note that this quiz is not an “end all be all” decision maker for what is a Mary Sue and what is not a Mary Sue. It mainly indicates how sue-ish a character is with the traits given to the character. They are not inherently bad, it is just that an overabundance of these traits that makes them “special” makes the character feel bland and Mary Sue-ish.
