Name: Rikku Nagataki
Birthday: October 28th
Nation of Birth: Northern Water Tribe
Gender: Female
Age: 16
Element: Water // Healing
Appearance [/i]
Appearance: Rikku is a somewhat short individual standing at 5’4” and weighing about 120 lbs. She has long medium length brown hair that falls to just above her ankles. It is rather thick in texture, and may seem somewhat rough when looked at from far away but it is in fact rather smooth. She has never cut her hair, unless to trim it, hence why it has grown so long. Her eyes are an aqua blue, showing off her emotions quite clearly like the light reflecting off the water. She does not have the biggest bust size, either, but she manages. She is happy with the rest of her curves, as they make up for her somewhat small bust size. Like most people of the Southern and Northern Water Tribe, she also has a slightly darker skin color than the other nations. Her hair loopies, which are a custom of the water tribes, are not exactly the customary style, either. Instead of being thin loops, they are more like thick loops and include her bangs, making it seem as if her entire bangs and the hair in front of her face are looped back and held back with a clip of the water tribe emblem.
Clothing: Rikku wears a unique style of Northern Water Tribe clothing that she made herself. She has a black form fitting sleeveless undershirt with a robe tied around her front. A white sash ties the robe around her middle, and underneath it is a black string with a black and white feather attached to it. The sleeves on this robe are rather unique in that they do not cover her shoulders and are lined with white fur. When the sleeves get to just below her elbows, they form more to her arms and create a slight puff just above the elbow. From her knee down to her brown shoes she has leg warmers, with white fur lining the top of the warmers. When it does get too cold, she wears an overcoat that has a hood and is also lined with white fur.

Weapon of Choice: Waterbending
Bending Abilities: Rikku has been training with the healers in the Northern Water Tribe. Only a certain handful of females are accepted to train with the Master Waterbender for fighting, and she overslept the day the girls were being selected so she was left with only learning waterbending for healing. She is by no means an expert, but she most certainly can get rid of most cuts and scrapes. When it comes to major damage such as broken bones, she can do it, but she hasn’t practice it or learned much about it. She ran away from home before getting into this type of healing.
Inner Glance [/i]
Personality: Rikku is a very bubbly individual and is almost always smiling. This most certainly can be a weakness of hers, as she also trusts too easily. She thinks that most people are good, even in the war. If someone is hurt, then she’ll try to help them. She tries to cheer everyone up, even if their upset, because she does not like to see others hurt or in pain. She feels like if it is the only thing she can do, then she will try to make others happy. She can also be rather airheaded at times, and will almost always forget things at the most important moment, like oversleeping on the day when females are being chosen to be accepted into Waterbending School.
Deep down, under all her cheery and bubbly nature, is a scared little girl. She truly is scared of the war and fire in particular. She has a deep insecurity about being herself, and about being able to help people. As much as she wants to, she has little self confidence in herself to be able to do things. So to try and make up for this she tries to make others feel confident in themselves.
Fear(s): – Being alone
- Not being able to help
- Losing her best friend Kinto
- Fire
Hobbies: – Playing children’s games
- Practicing her waterbending
History [/i]
History: Rikku was born on a cold October evening to two Northern Water Tribe members named Habato and Kanna Nagataki. Her mother and father completely adored her as a child, and she was very well taken care of. She was born just as the conflict was starting to arise between each of the nations. She was just a child, however, and did not understand any of the things her parents or others were talking about. She would just smile and wave her little hands.
When she was four years old, however, she learned just how dangerous the war was. When her family was on vacation with a couple members of the tribe, they were attacked by a Fire nation ship. They had wandered ever so slightly off course from their original destination to the Earth Kingdom, and by doing so, the Fire Nation navy attacked their boat. Rikku was absolutely terrified as she hide within the lower deck of the boat with her mother. She clung to the back of her mother’s leg, eyes closed tightly and shivering with fear. Before Rikku could really comprehend what was happening, a firebender had come to the lower levels of the ship. Without any warning, the firebender had punched at the two, a flame of fire going towards Rikku and her mother. Kanna protected Rikku, getting badly burned in the process. Her entire right side of her body was burned, and her clothing was still burning as the firebender walked towards Rikku. Tears running down her face, Rikku only stared as her mother cried in pain, and the fire bender soldier came towards her. Luckily for Rikku and her mother Kanna, Habato and the warriors had come to save them. They had taken care of the firebenders on the deck, and came down to protect the two women when they heard Kanna scream.
Habato never forgave himself for what happened to his wife that day, and Rikku never forgave herself for not helping her mother. From that day forward, Rikku started to have very little confidence in herself. She stayed quiet for months, not saying a word. She only watched as her mother slowly recovered from her injury and her father continued to blame himself for what had happened to his wife and child. After about a month, Rikku did not want to see her family in pain anymore. Her mother was healing faster, thanks to the healers in the Northern Water Tribe. So she began smiling more, and talking to her mother and father. She told them to cheer up, everything was okay! They were all alright now and living happily. Eventually this happy-go-lucky bubbly Rikku did cheer up the rest of the family and everything returned to normal.
When Rikku had turned eight, it was the day that the Northern Water Tribe was selecting females to be accepted into the Waterbending School for fighting. The girls had to arrive early, and would be selected depending on their status and how their natural talent was with waterbending. By the time Rikku had woken up that day, it was already an hour past the entrance examination. She rushed to get ready, running out the door as she was still fixing her hair. On the way to the school, she had run into a boy. Falling backwards, she immediately apologized to him. He had laughed, only holding out his hand and helping her up and exchanging an apology. “What are you apologizing for, Miss? I shouldn’t have been standing in the middle of the road.”
Rikku was only eight years old, and really did not have any interest in boys at this point in her life. However, the kindness and compassion this boy had… just seem to catch her attention and bring a warm tint to her cheeks. He had only laughed, saying that she looked cute when she blushed. She puffed her cheeks slightly, trying to ignore the comment before politely excusing herself only to find that she had missed the deadline for the acceptance into the bending school.
Slowly walking back home, feeling a bit defeated that day, she ran into the boy who she ran into earlier that day again. This time, though, they didn’t bump into each other but casually seemed to notice each other. He had asked her what was wrong, and she explained she overslept and missed the acceptance of the female benders into the school. He invited her to get tea, and the two talked about it more. She learned that his name was Kinto Kobayashi, he was a year older than she was, and that he was a student under the current waterbending master who taught the school. The two seemed to click almost immediately. Rikku had told Kinto that she was in the school for healing, learning how to heal with her bending. He flattered her by telling her that she must be an excellent healer. She only shook her head, blushing once more.
The two continued to see each other for the next eight years. When she turned sixteen, her mother and father called her into the main room to sit her down. What surprised Rikku the most was that Kinto and his family were there. She slowly knelt down next to her mother, smiling to Kinto and waving to him when she thought no one was looking. Kinto’s father and Habato seemed to be glowing, smiling to each other and Kinto just seemed to be… a bit distant. He had his head down, and his eyes closed halfway. It made Rikku worry.
“Well, Rikku, it has come to our attention that you have come to the age of sixteen. That is the marriageable age within the water tribe.” Kinto’s father explained, looking to his son out of the corner of his eye. Habato had smiled, looking to his daughter.
“We’ve arranged a marriage between you and Kinto. You’re officially engaged.”
….. E-engaged?
Looking to Kinto, Rikku had mixed feelings. She wasn’t ready to be married. Sure, she liked Kinto … he was a great friend, but marriage? Was she truly ready for such a thing? She swallowed hard, her heart beating faster than it normally would. Kanna had placed her hand lightly on Rikku’s hand, trying to calm her daughter. Habato and Kanna truly thought that Rikku would be happy to be engaged to Kinto. The two of them had been together since they were eight years old, and seemed to have feelings for each other.
Rikku had bowed her head, closing her eyes as she apologized to everyone in the room. Before anyone could respond to her apology she had ran out of the room. Kanna had held her hand up, stopping Habato and Kinto who had both half gotten up to run after her. She told them that she just needed time to accept it and come to her senses. Being told you’re going to be married is big news to handle.
However, when Rikku didn’t return, Kinto worried. He went to her room and knocked on the door, waiting for an answer. When she didn’t answer, he opened the door only to find the room empty with a note on her bed. He walked over to it, picking it up and reading it.
Kinto… I’m not sure if I can marry you. I do have feelings for you, I do. But… a forced marriage? I don’t think I can do it… I’m so sorry… Please don’t worry about me. I’ll be fine. Take care of my mother and father for me~!
Love, Rikku
She had run away. She couldn’t come to face her true emotions. She was scared, frightened, confused about what she truly felt for Kinto. She never liked the idea of arranged marriages, and being told she was put into one … she just ran away. If anyone asked her why she ran away, or told her that she was a coward, she would just smile sadly and nod. She knew she was a coward for running away. Now Rikku travels through the nation, trying to learn how to protect herself with her waterbending. She tries to stay as far away from the Fire Nation as possible, due to her previous encounters with them in her past.
