The Bending Arts[/b][/u]
Within this world there are a chosen few who can control their element, known as benders. Bending is the ability to manipulate an element and is known as the bending arts. The bending arts are not defined genetically, but are related to a character’s nationality.
Airbending is known as the most defensive bending art. Though airbending does lack fatal finishing moves like those of other bending arts, it is the most dynamic of all bending arts. Air is the element of freedom and the airbenders use their capability to bend unencumbered by the ground or any other environmental factors and use their own momentum as a weapon. By doing so they can evade attacks with astounding speed and agility to tire their opponents out or build up massive inertia for explosive gusts of wind to make their counterattacks finishing moves. The first airbenders were the sky bison, and the airbenders learned how to bend air from these animals. Their season is autumn.

Waterbending is practiced by select people of the Water Tribes and is the most versatile element and one of the more unique bending arts. The waterbenders did not learn their bending from an animal, but in fact learned it from the Moon. Waterbenders, unlike other benders, gain a serous advantage or disadvantage depending on the amount of water around them. There are certain clever waterbenders who can draw humidity from the air and bend the water in living things, such as plants. This is how blood bending came to be. As the element of change, waterbenders can fluidly and quickly alternate from defense to offense. They can use a wall of ice to a jet of water, turning their opponent’s strength against them instantly. Due to its lunar sympathy, waterbending is stronger at night. Their waterbending ceases to exist during a lunar eclipse, however, as the moon is not in site to give the benders power. The moon and the ocean were the first waterbenders, pushing and pulling the waves. The sub-skill for waterbending is healing and their season is winter.

Earthbending demands a special connection with the earth. An earthbender must wait and listen until the right moment to straight. Like waterbenders, earthbenders gain an advantage or disadvantage in battled based on the amount of earth around them. Earth is a stable element, so earthbenders must stand their ground, absorbing or intercepting attacks until they completely overwhelm their opponents. Earthbending’s strength equally lies in both offense and defense. Badger moles were the first earthbenders and the earthbenders learned their bending from these animals. The sub-skill for Earthbending is metal bending and their season is spring.
[/li][li]~*{ Firebending }*~[/i]
Firebending is the most aggressive bending art. Unlike other benders who depend on external sources of their elements to bend, firebenders can create fire using their internal heat source in addition to controlling already existent flames. Fire is the element of power, so the firebenders have to be able to maintain a constant source of energy and balance in battle. They can unleash a volley of direct, successive attacks because of this. Due to its solar affinity, firebending is stronger during the day and ineffective during a solar eclipse and is at its full power at noon. Dragons were the first firebenders, and the sub-skill for firebending is lightning. The season for fire is summer.
